Important Note: Due to the very high level of interest in our funding, the cap on registrations for the Spring 2023 funding round was reached soon after opening, so registration is now closed. We sincerely apologise for the disappointment this causes and we are working hard to raise further funds to enable us to offer more registration places in future funding rounds. Dates for the Summer 2023 funding round will be published below in March 2023.
What is the Fore looking to fund?
The Fore offers unrestricted grants of up to £30,000 spread over 1-3 years which have the potential to have a transformational impact on an organisation. Our funding might help your organisation to grow or scale your work, increase your internal capacity, serve new beneficiary groups, become more sustainable or more efficient. We want you to be able to be better at what you do. We see our grants as investments in the organisations we support – unlike many funders, we do not fund project based work. We look to make grants that will strengthen organisations for the longer term.
The Fore particularly encourages applications from small organisations working with marginalised groups and led by people in the community that may have found it hard to access trust and foundation funding in the past. We want to be different. Our funding process is specifically designed to level the playing field and give no advantage to those with fundraising experience or connections.
Is my organisation eligible to apply?
Any UK registered charity, CIC, CIO or Community Benefit Society with an income of under £500,000 in their last completed financial year is eligible to apply. Please see our FAQs for any questions regarding eligibility.
How do I apply?
To apply for funding, organisations must first register some basic contact details with us. This can be done via a link which appears below the webinar video on this page, when the funding round is open. Please note, you cannot see the link if registration is closed.
The number of registrations accepted for each round is capped to ensure we are able to give every application the attention it deserves. Registration is run on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the cap is reached, the round is closed, so please register early (Registrations open at 10am). We would advise you to wait until you have successfully registered before preparing an application document – you are given 3-4 weeks to do this between registration and the application deadline.
When registration opens, the following information is required to register:
• The organisation’s name, legal entity type (UK charity, CIO, CIC or CBS), registration number, address, telephone number, annual income for the last completed financial year, and sector and location of charitable work.
• Whether the organisation has applied for or received funding from The Fore or The Bulldog Trust in the past.
• The key contact’s name, job title and email address.
If you have any accessibility needs which may affect your ability to register, please contact us in advance of the registration day on firstname.lastname@example.org. We would be happy to discuss how we can facilitate your registration.
If you have slow broadband, we recommend that you ask someone with more reliable internet access to register your organisation on your behalf. Please note that this is the only stage of the application process where slow broadband could be a factor.
Successfully registered organisations are given approximately 3-4 weeks to write and submit a simple application document via a secure weblink by the deadline date noted in the timetable below. If you are unable to locate an email from us confirming your registration and providing a unique weblink to complete your application, please first check the spam/junk folder of the e-mail address you used to register. Following this, you can email email@example.com and we will resend the weblink to you.
How do I write my application?
A number of resources are available to help you. Start with the Guidelines for Application and Frequently Asked Questions and read our blog post to understand what we mean by transformational impact. Our webinar below is also designed to help you understand what we can fund. If you have any accessibility requirements which may require adjustments to the application format, please get in touch to discuss how we can support you on firstname.lastname@example.org.
What happens after I submit an application?
You will receive a confirmation email to confirm successful submission. Following the application deadline, all applications are reviewed by one of our Strategic Applicant Consultants. Applicants who are successful in reaching Stage 2 of our funding process will be contacted by email by their consultant, and invited to book a phone call. All other applicants will receive written feedback by email. If you have heard nothing from us, and it has been over 14 days since the application deadline, please contact us on email@example.com.
Read our blog post here to find out more about Stage 2 of our funding process, including what to expect and how you can prepare.
