Age Friendly Melksham Request
Age Friendly Melksham (AFM) was registered as a CIC in May 2020, the first rural town to join the national Age Friendly Network, created by the UK Government under the umbrella of the WHO, to address a worldwide ageing population. AFM ran a successful pandemic response through a team of dedicated volunteers which is still continuing, delivering shopping prescriptions and friendly phone calls to the most vulnerable older people. We are now now working on developing Melksham’s Age Friendly status. We completed a community survey in 2021 and now need to respond to the findings and develop a three year community action plan. Unfortunately our Chairperson has recently stood down, and we need support with developing our forward strategy and business plan and some support and development of the board would also be useful at this time including recruitment of new board members.
What are they looking for?
We need interim support to help develop a forward strategy to go from the community survey to active community engagement and action planning towards age friendly status. We also need support to develop a business plan and fundraising strategy to sustain the work going forward. Part of the support will be help to recruit a new Chairperson. This will include helping us to develop the role profile and advertisement. Our ideal candidate will have experience in strategy development and business planning, experience of working in the charity/CIC sector at board level as well as some knowledge of recruitment and potential sources of funding. Developing Melksham's Age Friendly status involves collaborating with local stakeholders and leading agreed projects identified by local residents, that support active ageing; addressing the social, emotional and practical difficulties older people encounter. Some knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by older people would also be useful. Our new co-ordinator will be the main contact working three days a week, Tues, Weds and Thursdays and is able to meet in person or via Teams or Zoom.
Timeframe:We would benefit from support with strategy development and action planning over the coming months, as there has already been a delay in project momentum which we are keen to regain.
