Organisation Description

For-Ethiopia is a Bristol-based charity working closely with our implementing partner, For Development Association Ethiopia, rooted in the communities of Ejere, West Shewa Oromia state. We are the only NGO permanently working in this district due to its location and poor infrastructure.

We work alongside local communities, who we believe are best placed to understand their problems, and we provide support to help them find sustainable solutions.

Our vision is to see healthy, educated and self-sufficient communities within the Ejere district of Ethiopia with a particular focus on education for girls.

What are they looking for?

We are seeking a trustee with financial expertise (i.e a Treasurer). While all trustees are collectively responsible for the management of the charity's resources, the Treasurer will act as the lead trustee in articulating the financial governance of the charity. The treasurer plays an active role in ensuring all trustees understand the charity's financial arrangements and that they are able to contribute to financial discussions and decisions. The ideal candidate will have all of the following characteristics, knowledge and experiences: - A good understanding of financial management and accounting; - Strong business and financial acumen; - Working knowledge of Quickbooks; - Ideally live in or close to Bristol to enable after work in-person meetings. Trustees meet once per month for a two-hour meeting, which takes place on the 2nd Thursday of each month. These meetings are a hybrid of in-person and online, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Additionally, trustees meet for an 'away day' once per year on a Saturday for a review and to build on best practice. Our current Treasurer has estimated 2 to 3 hours per month (plus trustee meetings) to cover the role. Our end of year accounts are put together in October and liason with an independent examiner is required.
