Making Space for Craft Ltd Request

Organisation Description

Making Space is a purpose-built craft centre in Leigh Park, a large post-war social housing scheme in an area of multiple deprivation. We literally make space for people and organisations to be involved in craft by creating opportunities for people of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities to discover and develop their design and making skills. Crafts include jewelry, textiles, printmaking, gilding, weaving, fused glass, and ceramics. Our sessions engage people who might be seldom heard, may feel that arts are not for them or find it challenging to access mainstream provision. We partner with agencies and community groups to work with refugees, asylum seekers, the homeless and for those living in refuges, hospice care and assisted living. Our makers tailor workshops to meet the needs and challenges faced by user groups, enabling us to work with people with mental health issues, disabilities and chronic illness.

What are they looking for?

Following borough wide disinvestment in the arts it is crucial that we develop our fundraising skills and embed core fundraising within our operating model. We seek support in development of corporate and individual giving schemes and training for our trustees in application writing. We would also benefit from learning how to better present our case to support, and raise the profile of our work. We are establishing a volunteer fundraising team to draft and submit bids, and would welcome support here. We are based in Havant, Hampshire but work flexibly, holding meetings online and in person. Ideal candidates would have experience in fundraising or copywriting and an appreciation of the importance and impact of community projects.
