South West London Laws Centres

Organisation Description

South West London Law Centres helps people on low incomes access free or low cost legal advice in the areas of social welfare law such as housing, employment, debt and immigration. By so doing , we enable members of our community, many of whom are very vulnerable, to understand their legal rights and gain access to justice.

What are they looking for?

We are looking for a new trustees including a Chair, with a wide range of skills, experience and backgrounds to join our board. We know that there is much unmet need for our services but the current legal aid and grant funding regimes means delivering them is a constant challenge. In order to flourish and grow we therefore need to: • consider new models for delivering our services • continue to amplify the voice of the law centre • network over a wide area of London; • make the most of technology to increase our reach and ability to report to multiple funders; • look outside traditional funding sources to increase stability in the law centre • continue to make the law centre a good place to work and volunteer for. We are looking for people from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience to support us. We are keen that our new board reflects the diversity of both our community and our employees. New trustees should have either lived experience of the issues that face our clients and/or the professional skills to help the law centre to develop. Knowledge of the law and legal system is not a pre-requisite.
